A child born into this world begins a new life. Everything is new and must be learned. We do not expect a newborn to know or do much at first. But as time goes on, the child must develop wisdom, skills, and behaviors in order to be successful.
Likewise, when we become Christians, we begin a new life and must grow and learn as time goes on. Some believe that when we are baptized into Christ we don’t need to change anything, but have simply gained a way to have our sins forgiven. But we are called to be more than this.
According to Hebrews 5:12, we should grow in our new life:
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.”
Remember the words of Romans 6:3-5 as we live and learn life anew as those who follow Jesus.
“3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”
